Access Northern Ghana places volunteers in the area of interest and specialization in Northern Ghana on the period requested. Volunteer work is an excellent way to put your hands to work in a meaningful way for and with other people. It is also a perfect opportunity to broaden your horizons and to learn from other cultures and customs. We hope that the experience of working and living in Ghana will lead to a lasting concern for the problems of Third World development. Working as a volunteer is a great way to put your shoulder to the wheel and to be busy in a meaningful way together with and for other people. Furthermore it gives you the opportunity to widen your horizon and learn a lot. We hope that you, as a volunteer, will contribute to the good name of Access Northern Ghana, but will also learn something of experience your self. Nevertheless a lot is expected from you. We require that you take your job seriously and will mean something for the work you are doing. In addition to this you need to have a little knowledge of the area, which you would like to work in.
ACNOG can facilitate interested volunteers with a volunteer position in one of the main focus areas through which ACNOG hopes to achieve development of the Northern region. The main focus areas include:

Volunteers (Teaching)1) EDUCATION
—Ghana is afflicted with a lack of qualified teachers. There are many opportunities in Tamale and surrounding areas to teach in a school where teachers are scarce, uncommitted, and unqualified. Volunteers, who are willing to give one of our underpaid, overworked teachers days of rest would be of immeasurable worth. Most of our schools don't even have a blackboard nor chalk, instead they write on walls.

2) CONSTRUCTION

—Often volunteers can help in the building process of schools for children, vocational schools for street children, as well as structures to serve as meeting and teaching places for women's group. Anyone with any construction experiences could be of great service to specific building projects in the Northern region.

3) CHILDREN'S HOMES & STREET CHILDRENChildren's Home
—There are a few Children's homes located in Tamale and its surroundings, and often there are volunteers that are needed in addition to the local staff. Such children's homes house young children that have been orphaned, abandoned, or some whose mothers died at birth and are being kept at the children's home until they are of an age where their fathers can care for them properly. There are also projects being set up that are dedicated to linking street children with NGOs in order to provide school fees for these children to attend school.

4) HEALTH
—Anyone with any kind of medical or nursing background can have an opportunity arranged to volunteer in a clinic, hospital, or home for the disabled. There are also guinea worm eradication projects, and AIDS education projects, both situated in rural villages.

5) WOMEN GROUPS
—There are a number of women's groups in the Northern region that require assistance. Such groups are dedicated to finding ways for women to achieve an income in order to support their families.Women at work Women's groups focus on teaching vocations to local women, such as sewing, Tie-dying, Shea Butter production, and soap making. Stimulating small-scale enterprises (such as the selling of other local goods, foods and drinks) is also supported by these women groups.
Volunteers can choose which focus area they would like to have their volunteer position in, although positions can be subject to availability
